Following a serious crane-related incident a few years ago, a client undertook a detailed assessment of contributing factors and determined that Periodic third-party inspections (PTPIs) are likely the most important control available (apart from SOPs) to minimise crane-related risks. Stanton is currently assisting that client with PTPIs on their entire fleet of bridge cranes at sites around Australia.

Stanton has recently undertaken a detailed structural assessment of a crane runway that supports two 175 t cranes. All structural analysis was performed using the finite element analysis methodology as it takes into account the positive effects of the end stiffeners and the torsional stiffness of the runway girder. Following the structural adequacy check of the girder, Stanton designed the required remediation details for the girders.

Stanton had also undertaken a detailed fatigue analysis of the rail clamps to determine the range of fatigue life in existing rail clamps.
